Virtual physical therapy, also known as "telehealth," appointments refer to physical therapy (PT) services that are provided over an online platform using a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. PT services are delivered remotely using electronic information and telecommunication technologies such as video and audio. PT services are delivered in real time (a live session) using these online technologies. This allows you to engage and continue your rehabilitation and recovery in an actual therapy session with your PT from the comfort and safety of your home. At Physio on the Go, our Virtual Physical Therapy platform is fully HIPAA protected so your records and information are secure.
2. How do I know virtual physical therapy is right for me?
Virtual Physical Therapy is a great tool to use in any instance, but especially while maintaining social distancing requirements, offering PT treatment as an alternative to going directly into a clinic. Each patient is unique with specific PT needs, so please call us at 619-391-8688 or email sean@kuhnphysicaltherapy.com for additional information and to discuss details to ensure you are comfortable with telehealth before your session.
3. Is a prescription from a doctor required for virtual physical therapy?
No (unless your insurance plan is a HMO)! In 2012, the State of California passed the Direct Access Law which means a doctor referral/prescription is no longer required to see a physical therapist. This even applies to Medicare Part B for evaluation only, so you either need a referral or signed plan of care to continue PT treatment after the initial visit. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this is important because you do not have to go to a doctor’s office first to get a prescription, and you can avoid urgent care or the hospital ER, which helps to protect you from additional virus exposure while helping with hospital overload. You can call us directly to schedule a same-day or next-day appointment. We’re here to help you feel better now, and we can see you right away!
4. What do I need for a Virtual PT appointment?
-A working computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone with a front camera -A fully charged device, or full access to power -A good internet connection -An e-mail address -A private room with space to move around that is well-lit so your physical therapist can see you -Have Zoom meetings downloaded onto your device. 5. Do I need to purchase any equipment ahead of our sessions?
Your physical therapist will determine equipment needs after your first official PT appointment as every person and circumstance is unique. Often times simple household and exercise equipment can be utilized, but if something more specific is needed your PT will let you know
6. Will my insurance cover virtual physical therapy services?
The only insurance contracts we currently have at Physio on the Go is with Medicare Part B and BlueShield of California, both of which currently cover telehealth PT services. For all other insurance plans we are out of network, which means we charge a cash rate for our PT plans of care—however many insurance companies and plans allow you to seek reimbursement from your carrier directly. If you need more information about this, please let us know and we can help point you in the right direction.
7. When I purchase a package, does that only work for consecutive weeks?
We offer 3 different PT packages for 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks of PT twice a week. The reason for this is consistency of the rehab process, home program accountability and ensuring you are doing the exercises correctly, and to ensure the best possible outcome of your treatment. In addition, you will be receiving complimentary weekly care plan resource updates to enhance your recovery process and treatment outcome. In doing so, we ensure you receive the highest quality care possible!
8. What are your hours of availability for sessions?
Since we are an online healthcare service, our hours of operations vary from day to day, but you will have access to our calendar and can self schedule depending on the availability for the day and time most convenient for you. If you do not see convenient appointment times just contact us and we will work with you on scheduling to ensure you stay on track with your treatment.
